The course consists of practical driving instruction and practice. The majority of the driver training is practical and is delivered in-cab on the public highways.

Instruction is structured to give the candidate the widest range of experience and exposure to:
• Varying traffic conditions
• Road types
• Urban/rural environments
• Vehicle handling and manoeuvring
• Gear selection etc

Duration: 8 days

In accordance with new DVSA legislation, you no longer need to take a test in a Category C vehicle before moving onto C+E. You will need to have a C+E provisional and to have passed both parts of the theory element.
Category C+E Training -

  • Training consists of eight days with the Practical test on the eighth day
  • Training will start on Saturday and continue through Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and the following Monday
  • Module 3a will be conducted during your training and Module 3b will usually be the following Monday
  • Training is 4 hours per day on Saturday and Sunday and 5 hours per day on the remaining days
  • Training is normally one trainee to one instructor
  • The vehicles are Volvo or DAF and automatic
Category C+E Testing -
You will be examined on your general driving and on set exercises. The tests are split into two parts, Module 3a and Module 3b.

Module 3a will last up to 30 minutes and consists of
  • An ‘S’ shaped reverse into a bay
  • Demonstrating the uncoupling and re-coupling procedure
Module 3b will last 60 minutes and consists of -
  • Vehicle Safety Questions
  • 1 hour of practical road driving
You must have passed your Module 3a in order to be able to take your Module 3b. You also must keep your Module 3a pass and present it at your Module 3b test.

During the driving test the examiner will give you directions which you should follow. Test routes around Wolverhampton and the surrounding areas are designed to be as uniform as possible and will include a range of typical road and traffic conditions.

Throughout the test you should drive in the way your instructor has taught you. If you make a mistake, don’t worry about it, it might be a less serious driving fault and may not affect your result. The examiner will be looking for an overall safe standard of driving.

You can make up to 12 driving faults and still pass the test (13 or more results in failure). However, if you commit one serious or dangerous fault you will fail the test. If at any time your examiner considers you to be a danger to other road users your test will be stopped.

You are allowed to take someone with you on the test, this person must be over 16 years old and cannot take any part in the test or influence the test.
